Benign Positional Paroxysmal Vertigo (BPPV) is the most common cause of vertigo, estimated to be responsible for about 50-75% of all causes of spinning vertigo.  After multiple attacks many people will relate that they are just “dizzy all the time”.   The detailed characteristics are well described in my paper on exercise paper.

The episodes are characterized by brief episodes of spinning vertigo precipitated by movement such as bending over, turning in bed, looking up or driving.  There can be just a few attacks a day or hundreds.  Nausea can be a prominent feature or absent.  The symptoms can be disabling or transient.  Many people are disabled by the symptoms that can last for years.  Physicians can miss the diagnosis and the usual response from doctors is that “all the tests are “normal”.  Fortunately, exercises can cure over 97% of people with BPPV.  The exercises are described at Vertigo Exercises .
